incidence of thrombocytopenia in hyperbilirubinemic neonates during phototherapy
نویسندگان
چکیده
thrombocytopenia has been reported as a complication of phototherapy. in this study the effect of conventional phototherapy on platelet count was studied in 101 newborns with indirect hyperbilirubinemia, out of whom 50 patients (49.5%) had decreased levels of platelets; 20 (19.8%) of the latter had a platelet count of below 100000/mm3. decreased platelet count was maximum during the first 24 hours of phototherapy. ultrviolet light may increase plateled turnover and injury during phototherapy by and unkown mechanism.

Effect of Phototherapy on Serum Bilirubin and Ionized Magnesium Level in Hyperbilirubinemic Neonates
Objectives: Jaundice is a main problem in the early neonatal period and it is suggested that there is a positive correlation between plasma ionized Mg levels and severity of hyperbilirubinemia in newborn. The aim of this study is to explore the association and to evaluate and interpret its clinical significance as well as to observe the effect of phototherapy on serum magnesium and bilirubin le...
متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Zinc Levels in Hyperbilirubinemic Neonates Before and After Phototherapy
BACKGROUND The existing therapeutic methods for neonatal jaundice are costly, time-consuming and potentially risky. Zinc salts can reduce phototherapy duration by precipitating unconjugated bilirubin in the intestine (bilirubin and zinc can form a complex in physiologic pH); however, zinc toxicity is an issue that must be considered since theoretically bilirubin reduction by phototherapy may in...
متن کاملAn Increased Genotoxic Risk in Lymphocytes from Phototherapy-Treated Hyperbilirubinemic Neonates
Background: Phototherapy is believed to be a safe method for the management of hyperbilirubinemia. However, there are some controversial issues regarding the genotoxic effects of phototherapy on DNA. The aim of this study was to investigate morphologically both phototherapy-induced DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and apoptosis in lymphocytes derived from jaundiced and non-jaundiced neonates. Me...

The objective is to study the effect of phototherapy on serum calcium in neonates. A Cross sectional study was performed in a Tertiary care centre, Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. Study group includes neonates with hyperbilirubinemia requiring phototherapy and control group include neonates having hyperbilirubinemia in physiological range. Study group and control group includes 60 and 30 neonat...
